SUPERVISORY METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN (OPERATIONS)

Experience:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation. Observing and recording atmospheric characteristics, i.e., temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types. Decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere, i.e., charts, diagrams, cross sections. Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, adjusting, and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy. Specialized experience also includes assigning work in terms of objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and provides advice on any unusual conditions or anomalies and administrative matters such as new reporting formats, timing changes, and equipment problems. The employee plans the steps needed to accomplish assignments and carry them out. Review of the work typically consists of an overall evaluation of the technical soundness and timeliness of completed work. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in- grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of meteorological methods, techniques, and practices, including advanced operations or approaches related to weather observing, forecasting, communications, meteorological equipment, and support procedures. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to measure meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation, and collect, analyze, interpret, adjust, and verify atmospheric or other meteorological data to confirm and improve its accuracy and effectiveness. Ability to conduct comprehensive studies, and prepare solutions to resolve problems concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of workplace operations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to prepare and present guidance products, briefings, coordinate planning efforts, and manage program activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
